Technical Information >> (5E) Coating on Zinc Alloy (Zamac)

Zamac is Alloy of Zinc, Aluminium and Magnesium.

Often jewellery is made of Brass diecast which is copper and zinc alloy and coated with Cyanide Copper+ Acid Copper+ Nickel+ Silver flash+ Golden Lacquer. In this process the base metal is expensive copper plus requires Nickel plating too.

Alternatively the other option is to use different metal as Zinc Diecast which is Zinc + Aluminium+ Magnesium alloy= Zamac, which is copper plated than thin gold flash followed with low cure golden lacquer. Low cure lacquer is required as zamac is not receptive to high temperatures.

Other option to coat Zamac is Zinc phosphate than coat with Shinex HB Lacquer. Cure at lower oven temperature at 140-150 C and extend curing time to 25 to 30 minutes (metal temperature)

Both ways nickel plating is avoided.
